Pedigree Puppy Tubos

3 delicious (though I have not tasted them personally!) cylindrical treats for your rats.

It is hilarious watching one rat trying to avoid the others other cage mates as they run off with a large cigar shaped treat.  Designed for dogs, but ideal nutritional content for rats.

Shaws Egg Biscuits - 2 varieties

These wonderful biscuits come in packs of 5 - each one encased in  its own little wrapper (I put the whole thing in - paper wrapper and all)

If these taste as nice as they smell I am tempted to have some for breakfast! Loved by rats around the world!

Training aid - clicker with bag of large white dog chocs

Have you ever thought of clicker training your rats?  Well have a go!

I have successfully trained 9 out of 10 of my rats to come to the clicker - "shake hands" (put their front paws on my hand in order to get the treat) and to kiss "they have to put their nose to mine) in order to get their rewards..... it is great fun and a fantastic way of encouraging more one-to-one games with your rat (or 10 to one in my case as they all live in the same cage and are all eager to show off.

The training is the same as with dogs - you will find a free training booklet with your clicker.  repetition is the key - you start with simple tasks - for instance - your rat coming to you - then break off a small piece of the choc drops included in the pack - just enough for them to eat it - not a whole one which they will run off with and forget what they did to earn it in the first place.

Then after rewarding them plenty of times for the simple task, make is slightly harder, maybe they could come further to you, then they have to touch you with their front feet .... and so it goes on - you could even use the clicker to help train your rats on home made agility courses - the list is endless - my lot love theirs.

Danglies to "tease" your rats with
One of my rats' favourite toys - these danglers (originally designed for cats) have a little bell near the crab/starfish and the rats seem to love pulling at the toy and then letting go - thus one crab/starfish pinging back on its elastic with a jingle noise!  I think if you tie it in the cage you may find it without the elastic in the morning - I use mine when I am playing with the rats.

Vitakraft Sticks

Following on from the treats above, I have selected 6 of the yummiest in the Vitakraft range that I can find.

The first one is packaged for rats, the other 5 for rabbits and hamsters - however, with the exception of the hamster nut one, all are ideal for rats.  The hamster nut one is more suited as a "one-off" treat and is especially good for youngsters and poorly rats.

Dried insect food

I have always given my rats live mealworms as a high protein treat - but many of you find it a bit. .... well ...... revolting.  Here is the best alternative I can find - dried food.  Manufactured for wild birds in your garden, but gobbled up by rats even quicker!

3 varieties - mealworms, Silkworms or Insectivorous mix.  The type of food their wild cousins would have relished!

Quote from "The Scuttling Gourmet"

".... Can rats eat Mealworms?

Mealworms have about 20% protein and 12% fat.  They are a good source of iron.  They are fine to feed as a treat (i.e. one or two every now and again), and rats do seem to enjoy then......"
Healthy living - natural foods

Since selling the Linseed and seeing how popular it is, I have researched other suitable healthy seeds to put on the site.  Sold bagged up on their own or as a wonderful 450g mixed bag of "Acrorats Breakfast Sprinkles".  I have often bought the human version from health food shops - but now I have made up a super rat version - just put a teaspoon of them in with your ratty food.  I often sprinkle them on shelves, over hammocks or even on the floor of the cage when I have just cleaned them out - makes them "seek and destroy"

Many dog biscuits are great for rats - loved as a treat and full of trace elements necessary for a healthy rat!

Here is a selection of the most popular treats loved by the Acrorat testers along with hundreds of rats across the country.
300g Country biscuits

These lovely biscuits look like little bones and choc chip cookies - although there is no chocolate at all!  Linseeds are the little black bits you can see.

We all know that linseed is thought to be good for ratties and can help them get a glossy coat - just look at Tsua on the right - her coat is positively gleaming
